ABOUT INSTANT STAR
Alexz Johnson stars as Jude Harrison, a feisty rock girl with a lifelong passion for music and the voice to back it up. When Jude enters G Major's singer/songwriter contest, she knows her stuff will kill, but she's shocked when she learns she won the whole darn thing. She never expected her raw, honest music to beat a bunch of wannabe pop stars! Now, with a recording contract, a soon-to-be released single and a mega-crush on her producer, Jude's wading through a world bigger than her wildest rock n' roll dreams. Thrust into the spotlight, Jude is desperate to prove she belongs there...but she's not even old enough to drive.
BEHIND INSTANT STAR
What makes Instant Star unique is the merging of creative forces - music and drama. Each season, Canada's finest songwriters are assembled to attend what the production team refers to as "song writing camp". At this time, the script writers introduce the song writers to the storylines and themes for the year. For five solid days, up to 10 songwriters (including Christopher Ward, Damnhait Doyle, Marc Jordan and Rob Wells) gather in one location and collaborate to create the Instant Star music. They put these songs down on tape with full tracks and vocals and on the final night the show's creative and production teams get together for a listening party. What is produced in only 5 days is absolutely incredible! The show's writers then incorporate this music back into the scripts they are writing. The symbiosis is magical. It is the essence of Instant Star.

A WORD FROM PRODUCER LINDA SCHUYLER
At Epitome Pictures, we are aware that young audiences are constantly exposed to opportunities that could instantly change their lives: winning as a "Canadian Idol", beating out the competition for a chance to model professionally, or competing for an opportunity to become a member of a rock band. We wanted to look beyond this phenomenon to see how instant success and notoriety can affect the life of a young person. Instant Star dramatizes the life of Jude Harrison who has become an instant star by winning a singer/songwriter competition and at the same time we watch as she juggles home life, school life, family and friends in this new-found world of fame.
ABOUT THE PRODUCERS
For twenty five years, Epitome Pictures has been producing award-winning television and educational programs. Linda Schuyler executive produced and co-created the original Degrassi series, The Kids of Degrassi Street, through to its current incarnation Degrassi: The Next Generation - winner of the very first Shaw Rocket Prize! Executive producer and partner Stephen Stohn has worked in the entertainment industry for over 30 years and is the founding partner in the entertainment law firm Stohn Hay. Instant Star is the result of Epitome building on its strengths in youth programming.

Canadian children's and youth programming is unique in Canadian television as it has the ability to engage domestic audiences as well as attract robust sales in the international marketplace. The Shaw Rocket Prize captures the spirit of this double-pronged success. The Shaw Rocket Prize engages an international team of jurors to select the finalists and then the winner is determined by a domestic team of age-appropriate young people. At Epitome, we are highly appreciative of this thoughtful selection process that reflects the success of children's and youth programming. We are proud to have our series among this fantastic group of finalists. We now anxiously await the results of these young media savvy jurors.
SHAW ROCKET PRIZE
Established in 2005 as the largest award of its kind in Canada, the Prize is designed to fuel the Canadian children's television industry by supporting and celebrating the country's best kids' programming. The winner of the prize will be awarded on May 3, 2007 at an event in Toronto.
