ABOUT THE SNOW QUEEN
The Snow Queen is a contemporary interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale that follows the quest of a brave young girl to overcome evil and darkness in an enchanted universe. Told through songs, atmospheric music and poems, The Snow Queen celebrates the innocence and enduring optimism of childhood.
BEHIND THE SNOW QUEEN
The Snow Queen is a live action fairy tale performed in a completely computer generated universe, backed by a haunting score that is performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The fairy tale world was created by using blue screen, digital effects and 3-D animation. Originally created and composed by Paul K. Joyce, this fantasy offers a new kind of viewing experience. Canada's Amberwood Entertainment partnered with UK's Total Eclipse Television to produce this unique holiday special. The Snow Queen airs on CBC.
THE JURY SPEAKS!
"I really liked The Snow Queen. The music helped create a mood for the setting and the illustrated background added a unique touch. I liked it because it was very creative, and I'm sure the director and especially the computer editor put a lot of work into it. Five stars!"
"The Snow Queen is a visual feast. Its presentation, the style of the program is a mix of live action and animation. It's done in a way that I've not seen before. From a viewer's perspective, I can see a family sitting down and watching this show, perhaps every Christmas...a real tradition. The performances are strong, the art direction is brilliant."

A WORD FROM PRODUCER CHANTAL LING
The Snow Queen is a beautiful and magical film, in every sense. It stimulates the mind and captures the imagination. It is after all a fairytale. At the core of this fairytale is the message of love conquering evil. It is a story of overcoming obstacles and of simply believing in oneself. These are all very human values that transcend time, gender and age. It is to us such an important message to foster in our children. Regardless of where innovations take us these values will always ring true.

CHANTAL LING ON THE PRIZE
It is such an honour to be nominated as one of the finalists of the Shaw Rocket Prize, it truly is. The beauty of this particular program is that not only are you judged by your peers, you are also judged the by the very people for whom you create, the children. It is brilliant! That is what makes this award so unique and exciting. That is why I believe the Shaw Rocket Prize has become such a prestigious award among Canadian Producers of children's programming.
