ABOUT THE WINNER

Life with Derek is a half-hour comedy series about a modern blended family, which has forced together two willful teenagers, Casey (Ashley Leggat) and Derek (Michael Seater), each used to being in charge and each determined to keep it that way! www.shaftesbury.org

Life with Derek is produced by Shaftesbury Films and airs on The Family Channel. www.family.ca. The producers are Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Daphne Ballon, Laurie McLarty, Jeff Biederman and Suzanne French.

ROLE OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURY

The distinguished international jury selected a shortlist of three Canadian programs that have greatly contributed to the quality of children's television in value, entertainment and innovative content.

STUDENT JURY DUTY

A national jury of about 700 grade 4, 5 and 6 students from the Royal Conservatory of Music's innovative Learning Through The Arts (LTTA) Program cast their votes and picked Life with Derek as this year's best in children's programming. Incorporated as part of the classroom curriculum, the students from schools across Canada participated in discussion and evaluation to learn what constitutes high quality programming. The LTTA is the most extensive arts-based initiative in the world, operating in almost 300 schools across Canada and 12 countries around the world. www.ltta.ca
