Pee wee hockey players from the US face discrimination when they come to Canada to play in a tournament.

PROFILE

FACEOFF

When international politics get in the way of a cross-border pee wee hockey tournament, 13-year-old team captain, Jordy, finds the courage and the imagination to right the wrongs committed to a visiting American team caught up in Canadian protest riots against the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Sticks and Stones is a compelling and heart-warming movie inspired by a true story that made headlines around the world. A Canadian pee wee hockey team organizes the Friendship Series tournament to make amends for the ill-treatment that an American team received during a visit to Canada.

CROSSCHECK ...

"Sticks and Stones was a really inspiring show. It really showed if you dream of achieving something, than it’s not impossible, but possible. Jordy was trying to make peace between the two countries but no one wanted to do it (get involved), and he still had hope and faith inside of him. This teaches me to chase my dreams, and keep going on."

Shastina, Grade 7, Surrey BC
Student Juror

"Sticks and Stones has broadest appeal – teens can like it but mom and dad if they’re in the room can really get into the story as well. It was uplifting, interesting, the hockey scenes were fun and exciting and it had a really good message."

Bob Higgins, Head of Creative, W!LDBRAIN,
International Juror
