DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION

2005 ROCKET PRIZE WINNER

2005 Winner - Degrassi: The Next Generation

Making consistently excellent television has its challenges. For the makers of Degrassi: The Next Generation, winning the inaugural Shaw Rocket Prize in 2005 "has helped all of us feel 'yes, it's all worth it!'"

Degrassi's producers fundamentally believe that "our young people are our future, and deserve more pride of place in mainstream broadcasting." Since winning the Rocket Prize, they have worked hard to ensure that young people get pride of place on national and international television screens:

"At Epitome, we are dedicated to producing quality programmes for and about youth ... [The Shaw Rocket Prize] is an invaluable support to those who struggle to speak to young people with respect, dignity and humour."

"The trick with a long running series," say the producers of Degrassi, now in its ninth season, "is to keep the show fresh." This season's dramatic take on the real-life issues of high school now has a whole new class of grade nine students, a new principal, its first ever football team, and an exciting new music master program!

Degrassi lives on...keep on watching!
